Participants will be able to administer the Ages and Stages Questionnaires® (ASQ-3™) and Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social Emotional (ASQ: SE).
This workshop will demonstrate how to administer the Ages and Stages Questionnaires® (ASQ-3™) and Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social Emotional (ASQ: SE) through interactive lecture and analysis of case studies. Participants will apply this information as they learn which ASQ-3™, and/or ASQ:SE to administer, as well as how to score these questionnaires, share results with families, and when to refer children for further evaluation.

This workshop will illustrate practices necessary to protect staff and children from contact with blood and other potentially infectious body fluids. Participants will discover methods t minimize exposure to disease causing pathogens (germs, viruses, etc.); special attention will be given to biting incidents. Participants will consider Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements and review the facility’s policies and Exposure Control Plan.

This workshop will explain stress management, infectious disease risks, and musculo-skeletal (ergonomic) challenges associated with caring for children.  Participants will review the occupational health risks addressed in Caring for Our Children: National Health and Safety Standards, 3rd edition; participants will assess their personal and worksite health promotion strategies, learning ways to alter their own health risks as caregivers.

Participants will be able to identify and reduce the risks of infectious diseases in child care.
This workshop will outline ways to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce the risks of infectious diseases among children and staff of early learning and child care facilities, based on the 2010-11 Healthy Futures curriculum from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Participants will describe and discuss how infectious diseases spread, ways to reduce the risk of infectious diseases, reasons for exclusion from child care, and when and how to report disease outbreaks to the PA Department of Health, using case-based scenarios and national standards for health and safety. Participants will receive handouts, including sample forms, reproducible parent information sheets and references for model written policies.

Participants will be able to recognize and respond to injuries or pediatric medical emergencies, including infant/child CPR.
This workshop will use the American Academy of Pediatrics Pediatric First Aid for Caregivers and Teachers [PedFACTs], 2nd edition, curricula to outline and demonstrate national standards for what early learning and child care staff should know about recognition and first response to an injury or pediatric medical emergency in a child care setting. Participants will learn how to manage a blocked airway and practice one person infant/child CPR with a manikin. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a card from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

This workshop will present the latest information on reducing the risk of SIDS and how to implement safe sleep practices for infants in child care. Participants will discover how to handle parents/guardians and staff who have out-of-date preferences for risky sleep practices, as well as learn how to handle a SIDS death. Participants will also identify and adopt best practices to meet PA Child Care Facility regulations.
